While I somewhat trust Microsoft to do no evil (Sorry, that is Google’s old mantra), I know that that data is collected under EULA (end user licence agreements) that few ever read. In its default mode Microsoft Windows 10 and its core apps collect personal data. Is not enough – the rest of this article relates to Windows 10. I use both Windows and Android devices and laboriously shutĭown all app permissions and lock the operating systems down very tightly. It took a damned long time to change all my passwords and clear history to feel safe again. In the same menu, there’s the option to restore a previously saved settings configuration.To recap a lot of my personal data was stolen from the Starwood breach and hackers were able to get into my disused web-mail and other accounts. When you have everything figured out and working as intended, click the File menu and export the settings to a registry file. No need to worry, just go back and uncheck/disable that particular option in O&O ShutUp10 if you need to re-enable it. O&O Shut Up 10 doesn’t just disable settings but also blocks some services. One important caveat is that you could start to see a lot of options in the Settings app becoming unavailable. It will also recommend you run the program from time to time, especially after important system updates, as some settings will be reverted by Windows. O&O Shut Up 10 will inform you about that. Note the factory settings option, which will restore everything to its default, so Windows can gather every bit of info about you as it pleases.ĭepending on what you check/uncheck, a system restart could be required. I recommend you do a system restore point before applying anything. Apply all settings (disable everything).Apply recommended and somewhat recommended options.Still confused?
